Last week we finally came to final decision about the practice schedule. Despite our best efforts, we were not able to separate the practices according to high school and unfortunately will have to deal with larger numbers of sailors on Tuesday and Thursday practices. In the end we came to this agreement:
Tuesday: Joe Aspland will coach this practice and it will be more of a general practice with a mix of boat-handling and potentially some basic racing drills. There will most likely be an on-land portion as well that will consist of some very light "fitness" (so please come prepared) or rules discussions. Joe will make sure that everyone gets time in a boat though this may be limited by the number of sailors present.
Wednesday: I will be coaching this practice with a focus on boat-handling and giving people who are not as comfortable in racing situations more time in the boat. I will adjust each practice depending on who is in attendance; some racing will be taught once we have reached a point of comfort for all who are there. This practice will generally end a little early because I have to leave immediately at 6pm as I have previous commitments to a soccer league.
Thursday: Joe and I will coach this practice together and the focus will be on more intensive racing skills and tactics. If a regatta is occurring the following weekend, individuals registered for the regatta will have priority over the boats and will generally race the whole practice. We will cycle non-registered sailors through the other boats with the intention that everyone who is there gets to sail but sailing time in the boats may less on these practices if there is a regatta the following weekend.
Once again we apologize for not be able to come up with a better solution. Hope this works for everyone, please feel free to contact me with any questions.
Amanda.
